Canary Islands health service issues urgent blood donation

Overview

The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations following a decline in hemocomponent reserves. While the previous summer campaign focused heavily on securing universal O-negative blood, current health authorities have expanded the priority list to include blood groups O+, O-, A+, and A-.

To address the shortage, the General Directorate of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy is reinforcing its outreach through social media and SMS messages directed at registered blood and platelet donors. This follows similar proactive measures taken during the summer months to mitigate seasonal declines in supply.

Donation sites remain active across several islands. Available locations include the General University Hospital of La Palma, the Méndez Núñez point in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and various health centers and hospitals throughout Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
