Canary Islands Health Service Urges Summer Blood Donations
The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has launched a summer campaign to boost blood donations, stressing the need for universal donor type O‑negative. Director General Francisco Javier Rodríguez said the region aims to exceed 60,000 donations in 2025 and noted that overall blood reserves remain stable, with only 0.05% of surgeries postponed due to shortages last year.
To facilitate giving, the SCS will deploy mobile collection units across the archipelago and keep fixed donation points open in malls, hospitals and town centres. Specific sites include the Alisios Shopping Centre in Gran Canaria, the Leroy Merlin centre in Adeje, Tenerife, and several municipal locations such as the Hospital del Sur and Plaza de la Iglesia in Arico. Contact numbers for each site are provided to encourage regular, voluntary donations throughout the summer months.
