Canary Islands Parliament validates decree to streamline dependency system

The Parliament of the Canary Islands has validated Decree-law 5/2026, which aims to streamline the public dependency and social services system. The legislation is designed to modernize administrative procedures and reduce bureaucratic rigidity to ensure more agile responses to social needs.

Candelaria Delgado, the regional Minister for Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families, stated that the changes seek to adapt regulations to current realities without compromising quality, control, or user guarantees. The decree also addresses taxation and the management of European Next Generation funds.

Additionally, the regional government is finalizing a new decree for the accreditation of social service centers. This measure is intended to facilitate the integration of resources into the Public System of Social Services and Dependency, addressing the administrative challenges currently faced by many centers within the system.
