Canary Islands public bodies achieve top transparency scores in 2025

The 2025 Transparency Index for the Canary Islands shows a marked improvement in compliance with public‑information obligations. The Cabildo of Lanzarote and several of its dependent agencies—including the Local Public Enterprise of Art, Culture and Tourism Centres, the Island Autonomous Tax Management Body and the public water consortium—received perfect scores of 10 out of 10. Other Lanzarote entities such as the Safety, Emergencies and Fire Prevention Consortium (9.54) and the external promotion agency SPEL (9.28) also scored highly.

The municipality of Tazacorte also attained the maximum rating of 10/10, up from 9.93 in the previous evaluation period. Councilor Antonia Acosta credited municipal staff and the secretary for the achievement, while Mayor David Ruiz called the result a recognition of the council’s commitment to open and responsible governance. The Index, which measures compliance with the Canary Islands Transparency Law, reflects a broader trend of rising scores across the archipelago since 2017, when many bodies were rated as non‑compliant.
