In late July 2026 the Canary Islands government announced two separate initiatives aimed at strengthening the performance of its public services. First, the regional authorities contracted two firms, at a cost of over €440,000, to increase inspection and supervision of care‑dependence centres, including home‑assistance and tele‑assistance programmes. The move seeks to raise service quality and respond to long‑standing complaints, while the public‑sector union UGT pressed the government to include the islands in a forthcoming revision of residence and island indemnities, arguing that current exclusions hinder recruitment and retention of staff.

Later that day, the 2025 Transparency Index showed a marked rise in compliance with the Canary Islands Transparency Law, with several bodies—including the Cabildo of Lanzarote, its cultural‑tourism enterprise, the island tax agency and the municipal water consortium—earning perfect scores. The municipality of Tazacorte also achieved a top rating. Officials credited staff effort and highlighted the results as evidence of a broader trend of improving openness across the archipelago since 2017.

Together, these developments illustrate a coordinated push by regional authorities to enhance oversight, service quality, and transparency within the Canary Islands public sector.
