Canary Islands reach 302 MW in photovoltaic self-consumption

The Canary Islands have significantly expanded their photovoltaic self-consumption capacity, reaching 302 megawatts (MW) of installed nominal power. Since the start of the 2023 legislature, the number of installations has grown to over 24,800 across the islands.

Regional authorities report that between 2020 and 2026, the number of self-consumption installations multiplied 17-fold. The growth has been particularly rapid recently; between late 2023 and June 2026, installations increased by 68%, while installed photovoltaic power rose by 122.3%.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria account for more than 70% of both the total power and the number of installations in the region. The residential sector remains the primary driver, concentrating over 90% of the self-consumption points.
