Playa del Carmen men sentenced for killing four municipal inspectors

Three men have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from 25 to 48 years for the February 2023 homicide of four municipal inspectors in Playa del Carmen. The victims were employees of the municipality's Fiscalización department who were conducting an inspection at a bar in the Ejidal neighborhood.

According to the Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo, the attackers used firearms to disarm the inspectors and then beat them with wooden boards and spiked planks before killing them with knives. The perpetrators also forced bar employees to clean up bloodstains and used an official municipal vehicle to transport the bodies to a different location.

Manuel Edmundo Muñoz Vázquez received the longest sentence of 48 years, followed by José Oswaldo Pech Jiménez with 27 years, and Néstor Enrique Aguilar Velasco with 25 years. The court also imposed financial fines as part of the sentencing.
