Cancún authorities investigate reported puma sighting in Cuna Maya

Authorities in Cancún, Mexico, have been alerted to a possible puma sighting in the Cuna Maya neighborhood. Following a report from a mototaxi driver, personnel from the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) conducted patrols in the area to locate the animal, though its presence has not yet been officially confirmed.

To mitigate risks, officials have advised residents to keep pets, specifically dogs and cats, indoors. For those traveling through the sector at night, authorities recommend walking in groups and using noise-making objects, such as whistles or metal items, to alert the animal of human presence. Profepa, along with local firefighters and ecology departments, is coordinating with neighbors to organize educational talks on safe coexistence with wildlife.
