Cancún to remove 22 abandoned boats from Nichupté Lagoon

The municipal government of Cancún is preparing an operation to remove 22 abandoned boats from the Nichupté Lagoon system. This initial phase will focus on vessels located near the shores, which can be extracted using towing maneuvers.

The coordinated effort involves several institutions, including the Port Captaincy, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), and Asociados Náuticos. The Port Captaincy will manage the legal procedures for the removal, while the City Council will provide land for storage and support with transit elements and cranes.

Officials emphasized that the operation serves both urban order and environmental protection goals. Conanp and the municipal Ecology Directorate will supervise the work to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and minimize the impact on the lagoon's ecosystem. Future phases may require specialized equipment, such as barges and platforms, to reach vessels located deeper within the lagoon.
