Cangas del Narcea completes major street overhaul and clears municipal debt

The town council of Cangas del Narcea finished a €331,415 renovation of Calle Clarín, replacing a three‑decade‑old sewer network, widening the road to 3.5 m, adding new water mains, underground cabling, and 54 paid parking spaces. Mayor José Luis Fontaniella said the works end long‑standing leaks, improve access for fire trucks and waste collection, and enhance pedestrian accessibility.

In a separate council meeting, finance councillor Xiana Abal announced the payment of the final €13,000 instalment of the municipality’s debt to Banco Sabadell. She blamed the opposition, led by former mayor Victoria Portas, for delaying the settlement and claimed the cleared debt now frees more than €1 million for public services and future projects.
