Cangas local government faces scrutiny over 1.8 million euro irregular payments

The People's Party (PP) in Cangas has raised alarms regarding approximately 1.8 million euros in payments made by the local government for services provided without valid contracts. According to the 2025 General Account, the BNG-led administration reportedly authorized 1,791,975.55 euros for services lacking active contracts or public tenders.

The opposition claims this is not an isolated occurrence but a continuous practice of irregular tacit extensions involving up to 34 different files. They argue this creates a state of precariousness for companies, effectively resulting in verbal contracts which are prohibited under the Law of Public Sector Contracts.

A significant case involves the Home Help Service (SAF), which has operated under these irregular conditions. While a new contract was awarded in 2026, legal appeals from a previous provider have delayed the transition. The Municipal Intervention has reportedly proposed the ex officio review of 15 of these files due to potential nullity, warning that such anomalous operations could lead to administrative and patrimonial liabilities for the Council.
