Canoga Park shooting leaves pregnant woman and unborn baby dead

A 22-year-old pregnant woman, Adriana Jimenez, has died after being declared brain dead following a targeted shooting in Canoga Park, Los Angeles. The incident occurred on August 23 when Jimenez and her sister, Maria Fernanda Jimenez, were sitting in a parked vehicle in an alley near their home.

According to family and authorities, a gunman approached the car and opened fire. Adriana, who was 16 weeks pregnant, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Her unborn baby also died. Her sister, Maria Fernanda, was shot in the neck; while the injury has left her unable to speak, she is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities have arrested 30-year-old Walter Rodriguez Garcia in connection with the attack. Garcia, who was reportedly known to the family and had a romantic relationship with one of the uninjured occupants of the vehicle, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder.
