Canoga Park shooting leaves pregnant woman in critical condition

A gunman opened fire on a parked vehicle in a Canoga Park alley on Sunday morning, leaving a pregnant woman in critical condition and wounding a second 22-year-old woman. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. near an apartment complex on the 8300 block of Northgate Avenue.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, five people were inside the vehicle when a man, described as a 26-year-old Hispanic male, approached and fired a handgun at the occupants before fleeing. Following the shots, the vehicle rolled down the alley and struck a refrigerator. While the second victim is expected to survive, the pregnant woman remains in critical condition.

Detectives are investigating whether the victims were specifically targeted or if the attack was random. Authorities are also looking into potential gang involvement, though no connection has been confirmed. LAPD Detective Rachel Evans stated, “It’s too early to say, but we have some good leads and we’re working on that.” A person initially detained in connection with the shooting was released after investigators determined they were not involved.
