Canon EOS R8 Mark II specifications leaked ahead of expected release

Leaked specifications and renders suggest the Canon EOS R8 Mark II is scheduled for release on September 15, 2026, with an expected launch in New York. The new model is anticipated to feature a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor similar to the EOS R6 Mark II, with a native ISO range of 100 to 102,400.

Key technical upgrades reportedly include In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) providing up to 7.5 EV of compensation and the addition of a rear joystick for improved operation. The camera may lack a mechanical shutter, relying instead on an electronic shutter capable of speeds up to 1/16,000 seconds, supporting continuous shooting at 40 fps and a pre-shooting mode at 20 fps.

For video and autofocus, the device is expected to utilize Dual Pixel AF II with deep learning AI, including new animal tracking capabilities. Video features may include 4K/60p (oversampled from 6K), 1080p up to 180p, and Canon Log 3 support. Additionally, a new software function may allow for the creation of 3D content from 2D images. The camera is expected to use the LP-E17 battery and a single SD card slot located on the side of the device.
