Canterbury wins 16th NPC title with victory over Northland

Canterbury secured their 16th NPC title with a 43-24 victory over Northland at Te Kaha Stadium in Christchurch. Despite trailing 21-10 at halftime, the defending champions staged a second-half comeback fueled by five tries.

Northland initially took control with tries from Heremaia Murray, Jordan Trainor, and Corey Evans. However, Canterbury’s depth proved decisive in the second half. George Bell and Isaac Hutchinson each scored two tries, while Dom Gardiner, Brodie McAlister, and Tyson Belworthy also crossed the line.

A turning point occurred late in the match when Northland’s Sam Nock received a yellow card, allowing Canterbury to capitalize. The win brings Canterbury just one title behind Auckland’s record for most NPC crowns.
