Cantv and Liberty Networks launch Fénix submarine cable

Cantv and Liberty Networks have announced the launch of "Fénix," a new 378-kilometer submarine cable system designed to connect Venezuela with Curaçao. The project aims to expand international connection capacity and diversify internet routes for the country.

The cable will feature landing points in Camurí, Venezuela, and Willemstad, Curaçao. It is expected to provide a minimum ring capacity of 14 terabits per second (Tbps) in each direction and reduce latency to Curaçao to less than four milliseconds. The system will integrate with Liberty Networks' regional fiber optic network in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Cantv's Festoon submarine cable.

The infrastructure will utilize advanced Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE) to support 100G and 400G interfaces. This new interconnection node is expected to serve the capital region, which accounts for over 40% of Venezuela's international traffic, thereby improving digital connectivity and service response times.
