Canyon Resources takeover bid fails for Cameroon bauxite project

The bauxite mining project at Minim-Martap in Cameroon's Adamaoua region faces significant hurdles following the failure of a takeover bid for Canyon Resources. A2MP Investments' attempt to acquire full control of the Australian mining company expired on September 21, 2026, after failing to reach the required 75% ownership threshold.

A2MP had offered 0.05 Australian dollars per share to acquire the remaining capital, but the offer did not secure the necessary majority. While A2MP and its partners remain major shareholders with approximately 56.63% of the capital, the failed bid creates uncertainty for the project's development.

The Minim-Martap project, operated by Camalco (a subsidiary of Canyon Resources), is considered a strategic asset for Cameroon. It aims to diversify the national economy away from its heavy reliance on hydrocarbons and agriculture. However, the project faces logistical challenges, including the need for significant infrastructure investment in roads and rail to transport ore from the inland Adamaoua region to coastal ports.
