Cao Bằng province deploys troops and police for flood relief and expands whole‑population border patrol

The provincial government of Cao Bằng ordered the mobilisation of the military, police and local authorities to evacuate residents and protect property as heavy rains from 25‑30 June caused widespread flooding. The storm affected 33 of the province’s 56 communes, damaged 586 homes (including several collapses), destroyed over 713 ha of crops, swept away livestock, and disrupted transport, irrigation, electricity and schools. Officials warned of heightened landslide risk and instructed that no one remain in or return to unsafe areas, while establishing checkpoints and security at evacuation sites.

Separately, the province’s border guard unit, responsible for more than 333 km of rugged terrain along the Vietnam‑China frontier, has intensified patrols through a whole‑population approach. Since 2015, over 19,445 patrols have involved about 120,900 participants, including border troops, police, militia and local residents, to monitor border markers, curb smuggling, illegal crossing and human trafficking, and enhance overall border security.
