Capcom schedules Onimusha: Way of the Sword release for September 4, 2026

Capcom has announced that its revived Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch on September 4 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. The action‑adventure uses Capcom’s RE Engine and follows the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, whose face model is the late Japanese cinema icon Toshiro Mifune. Musashi wields the mystical Oni Gauntlet, enabling parry‑deflect combat, soul absorption and ranged attacks with an Oni Bow.

A new “Severing Fates” trailer showcases a corrupted version of Kyoto’s real‑world Yasui Konpiragu shrine and introduces Genma foes such as Daidara and Rasho‑gan. Early gameplay previews note 1080p resolution in docked mode on Switch 2, a variable 30‑40 fps mode with VRR in handheld, and upscaled graphics likely using a custom DLSS‑like solution. Reviewers highlight the game’s blend of demanding boss battles and fluid, stylish swordplay, describing it as a strong candidate for a year‑end GOTY.

The announcement has generated strong hype across gaming outlets, with multiple outlets praising the combat system, atmospheric Kyoto setting and the ambitious technical push for the Switch 2 platform.
