Capcom's New-IP Push Earns Praise as Xbox Cuts 3,200 Jobs

Veteran developer Hideki Kamiya told fans on X that Capcom’s recent success is driven by the company’s leadership consistently taking an aggressive stance on creating new intellectual properties, highlighting the title PRAGMATA as a prime example.

He contrasted this approach with a broader industry shift toward risk‑aversion, noting that Microsoft’s Xbox division announced a restructuring that will eliminate 3,200 positions and refocus on established franchises.

Kamiya said Capcom balances fresh IPs with ongoing releases of its flagship series—Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter—while other studios such as Square Enix are also trying to launch new IPs but have seen more modest results.
