Cape Coast seeks to expand tourism through diverse investments

Cape Coast is working to establish itself as a global tourism destination by diversifying its offerings beyond historic castles and forts. During the 6th Inter Tourism Expo (iNTTA) in the Central Region, local leaders and hospitality professionals emphasized the need to integrate cultural heritage, traditional cuisine, and digital services into the visitor experience.

Cape Coast Mayor George Justice Arthur stated that the assembly is seeking increased investment in boutique hotels, restaurants, conference facilities, and digital tourism platforms. He noted that the city must provide memorable experiences to attract both international visitors and investors. The assembly is collaborating with traditional authorities and private-sector players to protect cultural assets and ensure local communities benefit from tourism growth.

Sheila Adjetey-Anum, Managing Director of Ridge Royal Hotel, highlighted that the region should more aggressively market its cultural heritage and local food, such as Fante fante and kenkey, to attract the African diaspora. She suggested that the hospitality industry should play a proactive role in packaging various local attractions, including canopy walks and traditional culinary experiences, to create a more comprehensive tourism product.
