Cape Greco maritime tragedy: Survivor recounts fatal storm

A survivor of a maritime tragedy at Cape Greco has provided a harrowing account of the storm that led to the death of businessman Dimis Mavropoulos. Kostas Konstantinou, one of the boat owners present in the bay during the severe weather, described the sudden intensification of the storm around midday last Saturday.

Konstantinou recounted his final communications with Mavropoulos, who attempted to maneuver his vessel away from the rocks. The survivor witnessed Mavropoulos’s boat being struck by waves and eventually breaking apart against the rocks. Konstantinou described his own survival as a matter of luck, noting that he was forced to abandon his vessel after striking rocks.

The incident triggered a major rescue operation involving helicopters and local authorities. Konstantinou expressed deep shock over the event, noting that while they frequently anchor in the area, the severity of the conditions was entirely unforeseen.
