Cape Town coastal sites receive consecutive environmental awards

Cape Town has received significant environmental recognition for two of its coastal sites during the Blue Flag and Green Coast Award Ceremony in Hermanus.

The V&A Waterfront Marina has secured its eighth consecutive Full Blue Flag Marina status for the 2026/2027 season. This award recognizes the marina's efforts to manage waste, protect marine life, and maintain clean waters within a busy commercial and tourism hub. Key initiatives include the Marine Wildlife Management Programme, conducted in partnership with the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, and daily marine clean-up operations using sweepers and netting systems.

Additionally, the Blaauwberg Nature Reserve has earned Green Coast recognition for the seventh time. Spanning approximately 2,000 hectares of coastal landscape, the reserve was honored for its biodiversity protection, environmental management, and sustainable tourism practices. The Green Coast programme specifically highlights ecologically sensitive locations that balance conservation with low-impact nature-based activities.
