Cape Town shootings leave at least 11 dead in three separate incidents

At least 11 people were killed in three separate shooting incidents across the Cape Town metropolitan area, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The attacks occurred in the residential areas of Khayelitsha, Langa, and Gugulethu. In the first incident in Lingelethu West, Khayelitsha, three men aged 25, 31, and 35 were killed. The second attack on Winnie Mandela Street in Langa resulted in the deaths of four men and one woman. The third attack in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu killed two men and one woman, while leaving two others injured.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi stated that the motives behind the attacks remain unknown. Police have deployed additional teams to the crime scenes and other high-risk areas. Dyantyi has offered a reward of 100,000 South African rand for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators, noting that gang violence and illegal firearms remain major security challenges in the province.
