Cape Town shooting incidents

Overview

In August 2026, a series of shootings across the Cape Town metropolitan area resulted in at least 11 deaths. The incidents occurred in the residential areas of Khayelitsha (specifically Lingelethu West), Langa, and Gugulethu.

In the first wave of violence, three men were killed in Lingelethu West, five people were killed on Winnie Mandela Street in Langa, and three people were killed in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu.

Following these attacks, the South African Police Service (SAPS) announced that the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit had exhausted available leads. To assist in the investigations, authorities offered cash rewards of up to R100,000 per case for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
