CapitaLand inaugurates first data centre in Chennai

Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated CapitaLand’s first data centre in Chennai’s Ambattur Industrial Estate on October 15. The 55-megawatt facility is expected to be among the first liquid-cooled data centres in the region, serving as critical infrastructure for cloud adoption, artificial intelligence, and digital services.

CapitaLand India Trust CEO Gowrishankar Nagabooshanam noted that the company’s presence in Tamil Nadu spans nearly 22 years, beginning with the International Tech Park in Taramani in 2004. The expansion into digital infrastructure marks a new phase of the Singapore-based group’s investment in the state.

The inauguration included traditional ceremonies and a tree planting event. During the visit, leaders discussed strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, technological development, and job creation. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S Keerthana also expressed interest in attracting further Singaporean investment in emerging sectors such as semiconductors.
