Italy Sets July 31 Deadline for Rottamazione‑Quinquies Tax Relief Payments

Italy’s 2026 Budget law introduced the Rottamazione‑quinquies scheme, allowing taxpayers to settle old municipal debts (IMU, ICI, TARI, fines) without penalties, interest or collection fees. The first or single installment must be paid by 31 July 2026, with a five‑day grace period extending the deadline to 5 August. The same date also marks the payment deadline for the earlier Rottamazione‑quater and the related Riammissione plans.

Payments can be made through banks, post offices, tobacconists, ATMs, PagoPA‑enabled channels, the Agenzia delle Entrate‑Riscossione portal or the Equiclick app. Failure to pay by the deadline or only partial payments will cause the loss of the scheme’s benefits.

Several municipalities are preparing to adopt the programme. The Trani municipal council will vote on joining Rottamazione‑quinquies on 29 July, aiming to ease the financial burden on local businesses and families. Montefiascone’s opposition councillor Orietta Celeste has urged the council to approve the scheme at a special meeting on 31 July, highlighting that many other towns have already done so.
