Capri security concerns rise following violent brawl in Marina Grande

A violent brawl broke out on August 24, 2026, in the Marina Grande area of Capri, involving a group of tourists and two local merchants. Video footage of the incident, showing participants using chairs, punches, and kicks, circulated widely on social media, sparking a debate regarding public safety on the island.

Deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli criticized the current security measures, noting that only a single patrol operates across the entire island at night. In response, Capri Mayor Paolo Falco highlighted that the territory is monitored by approximately 80 high-resolution cameras and that law enforcement has previously noted a reduction in negative incidents.

The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, issued a firm condemnation of the event and has ordered an intensification of surveillance and control services, including increased checks at embarkation points and landings.
