CapyPS5 and KytyPS5 bring PlayStation 5 emulation to Android
New experimental emulators, CapyPS5 and KytyPS5, have arrived on the Android ecosystem, allowing certain PlayStation 5 titles to run directly on mobile hardware without cloud streaming or console assistance.
CapyPS5, developed by Ghael (the creator of the Nintendo Switch emulator Lemon), utilizes the KytyPS5 base and FEX x86-64 technology to adapt software for ARM processors. In testing on an AYN Odin 3 handheld featuring a Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 processor, several titles achieved 60 FPS, including Dead Cells, Blasphemous, Animal Well, Greak: Memories of Azur, and The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. However, more demanding 3D titles like Stray and Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition showed significantly lower performance, ranging between 4 and 7 FPS.
KytyPS5 for Android is an independent port created by developer ‘tarek369’ rather than an official release from the original KytyPS5 project. The emulator works by translating x86-64 instructions to ARM64 using the FEXCore JIT kernel and converting GPU tasks to the Vulkan API. This process leverages Mesa Turnip open-source drivers on Qualcomm Adreno graphics chips to optimize performance for mobile architectures.
