Car of the Year 2027 candidates feature surge in Chinese EV models

The preliminary list of candidates for the 2027 Car of the Year award in Europe has been unveiled, highlighting a significant presence of Chinese manufacturers. Out of the initial pool of candidates, 13 models—approximately one-third of the selection—are from Chinese brands, including MG, BYD, Denza, Xpeng, Deepal, GAC Aion, Leapmotor, and Zeekr.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are dominating the competition, with 26 electric models already nominated across various segments. Notable EV contenders include the Volvo EX60, BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Porsche Cayenne Electric, and Lucid Gravity, alongside smaller models like the Renault Twingo and Kia EV2.

A jury of 65 journalists from 25 European countries will evaluate the vehicles based on design, comfort, safety, economy, driving performance, functionality, and price. The seven finalists will be announced on October 30, with the final winner to be revealed on January 8, 2027, during the Brussels Motor Show.
