European Car of the Year 2027 competition

Overview

The preliminary list of candidates for the 2027 Car of the Year award in Europe has been unveiled. The selection shows a significant presence of Chinese manufacturers, with 13 models—approximately one-third of the selection—representing brands such as MG, BYD, Denza, Xpeng, Deepal, GAC Aion, Leapmotor, and Zeekr.

Electric vehicles are dominating the competition, with 26 electric models nominated across various segments. Notable contenders include the Volvo EX60, BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Porsche Cayenne Electric, and Lucid Gravity, as well as smaller models like the Renault Twingo and Kia EV2.

A jury of 65 journalists from 25 European countries will evaluate the vehicles based on design, comfort, safety, economy, driving performance, functionality, and price. The seven finalists are scheduled to be announced on October 30, with the final winner to be revealed on January 8, 2027, during the Brussels Motor Show.
