CAR-T cell therapy advances treatment for aggressive lymphomas
CAR-T cell therapy is transforming the treatment landscape for patients with aggressive lymphomas, particularly those with refractory or relapsed disease. This immunotherapy works by reprogramming a patient's own immune defenses to target cancer cells.
Clinical trials, such as ZUMA-1 and JULIET, have demonstrated that this approach can achieve complete responses and long-term disease control in patients who have failed conventional treatments. While not a universal cure, phase III randomized trials have helped clinicians better identify which patients are most likely to benefit and the optimal timing for administration.
The therapy is especially significant for patients with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL). For those whose cancer progresses during initial treatment or recurs shortly after, traditional options like rescue chemotherapy or autologous stem cell transplants may not be viable. CAR-T therapy offers a critical alternative in these high-risk scenarios.
