Carabinieri alert seniors to scams in Testa dell'Acqua, Sicily

On 12 June 2026, the Carabinieri station of Testa dell’Acqua held an information meeting at the Parrocchia del Sacro Cuore in Rigolizia, Noto. The event was attended by parish priest Don Adriano Minardo and Maresciallo Maggiore Corrado Lupo, commander of the local Carabinieri unit.

Presenters outlined the most common fraud schemes targeting elderly residents, including impostors posing as water‑ or electricity‑company technicians, lawyers, or police officers. They explained how victims are coaxed into opening doors to strangers or handing over cash and valuables. The officers stressed the psychological toll of such scams, noting increased anxiety and feelings of insecurity among victims.

Attendees were urged to immediately call the emergency number 112 or contact the nearest Carabinieri station if they suspect a scam, and to refrain from letting unknown persons into their homes or handing over money or jewelry.
