Carabinieri arrest fraudsters targeting 85‑year‑old in Città di Castello
On 24 May 2026, Carabinieri in Città di Castello, Umbria, stopped a fraud attempt on an 85‑year‑old pensioner. A 43‑year‑old man from Campania posed as a police officer, claiming the victim needed to verify gold jewellery to clear him of a supposed robbery. The suspect entered the victim’s home while a 20‑year‑old female accomplice waited in a rental car. The pensioner shouted for help, alerting nearby officers who had been monitoring the suspicious couple. The Carabinieri intervened, seized the man and his vehicle, and confiscated his electronic devices. The 20‑year‑old was released pending further investigation. The suspect was placed in custody and later had his arrest confirmed by a Perugia court judge.
