Carabinieri celebrate 212 years, pledge tech‑driven community policing

The Italian Carabinieri marked their 212th anniversary with ceremonies in Varese and Napoli. In Varese, Colonel Marco Gagliardo highlighted a rise in arrests and prosecutions, noting that the force handled 88 % of reported crimes and identified suspects in 55 % of cases. He emphasized a shift toward direct contact with citizens for prevention.

In Napoli, General Nicola Massimo Masciulli outlined a programme to modernise the corps, stating, “L’Arma vuole essere un’Istituzione pienamente proiettata nella modernità… Utilizzeremo la tecnologia non per sostituire le persone, ma per amplificare l’efficacia del nostro operato.” The speeches underscored the adoption of new technologies, organisational reforms and a focus on proximity policing to strengthen community ties.

Both events featured local officials, religious leaders and representatives of other security forces, signalling broad institutional support for the Carabinieri’s future‑oriented strategy.
