Carabinieri celebrate 212th anniversary with 4,000 arrests and massive drug seizures in Italy
During the ceremony in Bari marking the Carabinieri's 212nd anniversary, officials reported more than 4,000 arrests made over the past year, the seizure of roughly 80,000 kg of illicit drugs and over 350 weapons. The force also carried out 181,000 preventive services and responded to 123,000 intervention requests, handling 77 % of reported crimes. General Nicola Massimo Masciulli said the challenge for the new millennium is “to maintain the balance between technological innovation and the traditional vocation of proximity to citizens.”
In Sardinia, the regional legate highlighted 1,300 arrests, about 10,000 complaints filed and the confiscation of nearly 100,000 marijuana plants from 30 plantations. He also cited recent operations that captured a fugitive, solved several murders and femicides, and involved coordinated anti‑mafia actions by the district directorate in Cagliari.
