Carabinieri conduct awareness campaigns against elderly fraud in Italy

The Carabinieri Company of Melito di Porto Salvo has launched a series of awareness initiatives across several communities, including Roccaforte del Greco, Bova, Bagaladi, Bova Marina, Condofuri, Lazzaro, Saline Joniche, and Melito di Porto Salvo. These meetings, held in community centers, parishes, and youth clubs, aim to prevent scams by providing direct dialogue and information to citizens.

Special focus is being placed on protecting elderly residents, who are often targeted through manipulation of trust and fear. One specific method addressed is the “false carabiniere” scam, where criminals impersonate law enforcement officers to trick victims into handing over money or valuables.

Officers are advising the public never to deliver cash, jewelry, or precious items to unknown individuals claiming to be police. Additionally, citizens are urged not to share personal data or banking information over the phone with unverified callers and to remain calm when faced with suspicious requests.
