Carabinieri launch fraud prevention campaign in Calabria

The Carabinieri company of Melito di Porto Salvo has initiated a series of awareness meetings across several communities in the Reggio Calabria area, including Roccaforte del Greco, Bova, Bagaladi, Bova Marina, Condofuri, Lazzaro, Saline Joniche, and Melito di Porto Salvo.

Organized in community hubs such as municipal halls, parishes, and youth centers, these sessions aim to inform citizens about various scam risks. The initiative places a specific focus on protecting elderly individuals, who are often targeted through manipulation of trust and fear.

One major concern addressed is the “false carabiniere” scam, where criminals impersonate law enforcement officers to trick victims into handing over money or valuables. Officials are advising citizens never to provide cash, jewelry, or sensitive banking information to unknown individuals claiming to be authorities.
