Italy Marks 212th Anniversary of Carabinieri with Nationwide Ceremonies

On 5 June the Italian State commemorated the 212th anniversary of the Carabinieri. The main ceremony was held for the first time in Reggio Calabria on the Lungomare Falcomatà and was attended by General Salvatore Luongo, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, Defence Chief of Staff Luciano Portolano and a host of other ministers, local officials and foreign delegations. The program featured a parachute display, the oath‑taking of the 144th cadet course, a tactical ship‑boarding demonstration by the GIS and speeches stressing the force’s role in security and community support.

Parallel events took place in Rome’s Villa Borghese, where Marshal Alfredo Paludi highlighted the Carabinieri’s social outreach during a panel titled “L’Arma per il sociale”. Awards were presented in several cities, including commendations to Marshal Emanuele Lanzetta for anti‑waste operations in Campania, Captain Giuseppe Esposito and other officers for bravery in Ancona, and numerous recognitions in Alessandria and other provinces. The celebrations underscored the institution’s historic legacy and its continuing commitment to public safety and social assistance across Italy.
