Carabinieri mark 212th anniversary with nationwide ceremonies and honors
Italy celebrated the 212th anniversary of the Carabinieri on 5 June 2026. President Sergio Mattarella sent a message to General Salvatore Luongo, praising the force’s “great contribution to collective security” and its role in peace missions. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni highlighted the Carabinieri as a “precious point of reference for our communities”.
Local events took place across the country. In Siena, Colonel Giulio Modesti reported over 112,000 people checked, more than 138 arrests and a focus on forest drug camps and elder‑fraud. The Enna provincial command detailed operations against fraud, organized crime and youth‑related offences. The Sassari ceremony honoured the 1920 Gold Medal for Valor and commemorated historic battles. In the Marche region, public ceremonies were held in Ancona, Macerata, Pesaro, Fermo and Ascoli Piceno, with awards to distinguished officers and students.
Brescia’s provincial ceremony highlighted operational results: 1,025 arrests, 10,075 denunciations, 31,414 weapons inspected and a 9 % drop in thefts. Across the nation the force emphasized preventative services, community engagement and a continued presence in both domestic and abroad missions.
