Caracas faces urban chaos following heavy rainfall and flooding

Heavy rainfall in Caracas has caused significant urban disruption, leading to flooded streets and paralyzed transportation systems. The recent downpour overwhelmed the city's drainage and sewage infrastructure, turning major thoroughfares into torrents of water.

Key transit routes, including the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro Highway and the Prados del Este road, experienced severe traffic congestion due to water accumulation. Other heavily affected areas include Avenida Andrés Bello, Libertador, Baralt, and sectors of Altamira and La Florida. The lack of systematic maintenance on drains has resulted in large pools of water that have stranded commuters and pedestrians.

The crisis also impacted the Metro de Caracas. Water ingress in various stations, caused by roof leaks and inefficient pumping systems, led to flooding on platforms, disrupting the vital transit artery used by hundreds of thousands of citizens daily.
