Caracas highway closed after cargo truck overturns in Chacao

A heavy cargo truck overturned on the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro Highway in Caracas on Monday afternoon, causing a total closure of the roadway heading toward Petare. The accident occurred near the El Ciempiés distributor in the Chacao municipality when the vehicle struck a bridge structure, causing its container to spill onto the public road.

Authorities reported that one person on a motorcycle was injured during the incident. The Caracas Fire Department and the National Bolivarian Police (PNB) responded to the scene to manage the emergency and evaluate structural damage. Heavy machinery and large-tonnage cranes were deployed to clear the container and the vehicle from the highway.

The accident resulted in severe traffic congestion extending from Plaza Venezuela to the San Agustín area. While traffic moving toward the city center remained operational, progress was slow. Authorities advised motorists to seek alternative routes while recovery operations continued.
