Venezuela activates energy saving plan amid Super El Niño threat

Venezuela has implemented a national energy and water saving plan to mitigate the impact of the "Super El Niño" phenomenon, which is expected to bring extreme heat and severe droughts.

Key measures include modified working hours for public administration, where employees will work alternating days and until 12:30 p.m., excluding essential services. Large consumers such as shopping centers and companies with high electricity demand are instructed to utilize self-generation through their own power plants.

Citizens are being urged to adopt residential saving practices, such as setting air conditioning to a fixed 21 degrees Celsius, limiting high-consumption domestic tasks like washing and ironing to before 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m., and unplugging unused electronic devices. Authorities are also focusing on fire prevention and maintaining electrical infrastructure to prevent short circuits caused by high temperatures.
