Caransebeș expands electric public transport fleet
Caransebeș has expanded its public transport fleet with the arrival of one electric bus and two electric minibuses. These non-polluting vehicles are intended to serve both the municipality and several surrounding communes, including Buchin, Turnu Ruieni, Bolvașnița, Slatina-Timiș, and Armeniș.
The acquisition is part of a nearly 8.8 million euro project titled ‘Integrated Sustainable Urban Mobility System in Caransebeș,’ which is funded by ADR Vest through the West Regional Program 2021-2027. This initiative also includes the construction of 23.53 km of bicycle lanes, the rehabilitation of 11 km of sidewalks, the creation of 300 square meters of green space, and the installation of two rapid charging stations for electric vehicles.
Mayor Felix Borcean noted that these new vehicles join four existing electric buses already in operation. The goal of the investment is to encourage residents to use public transit over private cars by providing silent, eco-friendly transport with sufficient autonomy for regional routes.
