Caravan and camper markets diverge in Germany and the Netherlands
The recreational vehicle market is showing contrasting trends in Germany and the Netherlands. According to data from the industry organization CIVD, the German market for new caravans and campers is shrinking. In September 2026, new caravan registrations in Germany fell by 18.3 percent compared to the previous year, while camper registrations saw a significant decline of 30.8 percent.
Over the first nine months of 2026, German caravan registrations decreased by 4.8 percent and camper registrations fell by 7.2 percent. This cooling trend was particularly evident in the third quarter.
In contrast, the Dutch market has shown growth in caravan sales during the first half of 2026. However, the second-hand market in the Netherlands is experiencing a shift. Data from the Campee price index indicates that used camper prices fell by 6.3 percent in October alone. As supply increases and demand softens following the summer holiday season, the number of campers offered for sale significantly outpaced actual sales.
