Carbon monoxide safety measures emphasized ahead of heating season

As the heating season approaches, experts are emphasizing the importance of preventing carbon monoxide poisoning. In the Lower Silesia region, firefighters have responded to 661 reports related to carbon monoxide since the beginning of the year, resulting in seven deaths and 105 people requiring medical assistance.

To combat this colorless and odorless threat, the information campaign ‘Czujka na straży Twojego bezpieczeństwa’ has launched in Wrocław. The campaign promotes the installation of carbon monoxide detectors, which are available for approximately 100 to 150 PLN. Experts advise placing these devices in critical areas such as rooms with stoves, fireplaces, or gas water heaters, while avoiding placement near windows or ventilation grates.

Beyond technology, safety relies on regular maintenance of heating systems, including the cleaning of chimneys and ventilation ducts. Proper room ventilation is also essential to prevent the accumulation of dangerous gases. New regulations are expected to mandate the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in buildings starting January 1, 2030.
