Cardano launches CIP-0113 programmable token standard on mainnet
The Cardano Foundation has announced the mainnet activation of CIP-0113, a new programmable token standard designed to allow issuers to embed compliance rules directly into native tokens. This standard is intended for regulated assets such as stablecoins, tokenized funds, and bonds.
Under this framework, the Cardano ledger enforces specific rules during the minting, burning, or transferring of tokens. These controls can include KYC and AML checks, sanctions screening, transfer restrictions, and the ability to freeze or seize assets. The implementation allows for complex logic, such as requiring approved recipients or limiting transfers across specific jurisdictions, to be handled on-chain rather than through external systems.
This update does not affect the native ADA cryptocurrency or existing tokens already in circulation. The programmable features apply only to new assets created using the CIP-0113 standard. The deployment was completed without requiring a hard fork and followed joint development with community experts and independent security audits.
