Cardiff man pleads guilty in international cannabis smuggling case

A man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to smuggle cannabis as part of an international drug ring involving the exploitation of minors. Patrick O’Driscoll, 30, of Cardiff, admitted to conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug at Cardiff Crown Court.

The case stems from an incident in June where Thai authorities arrested two 17-year-olds suspected of acting as drug couriers. The teenagers were allegedly found with 64kg of cannabis concealed within their suitcases while attempting to travel from Thailand back to the United Kingdom.

Several other defendants have appeared in court. Levi Coomansing, 20, and Gareth Press, 42, both pleaded not guilty to charges including drug smuggling and conspiring to arrange travel for the purpose of exploitation involving three young people. Other defendants, including Jessica Sani, Ffion Bowes-Cavanagh Hooley, and Carrie-Anne Dreyer, also denied charges related to cannabis smuggling and exploitation.
