Cardioalianza calls for equitable cardiovascular healthcare
The association Cardioalianza has released a manifesto titled ‘Que ningún corazón se quede atrás’ (Let no heart be left behind) to advocate for more equitable and integrated cardiovascular care. The document outlines ten commitments aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for the prevention, detection, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, or location.
In Spain, circulatory system diseases were the second leading cause of death in 2025, accounting for 25.7 percent of total deaths. Ischemic heart diseases were the most frequent cause within this group. Globally, the World Health Organization reports that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death, responsible for approximately 32 percent of all deaths, with 80 percent of these occurring in low- and middle-income countries.
Looking toward 2030, health professionals emphasize the need for improved prevention strategies to address challenges such as an aging population and rising risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. Experts suggest that reducing heart disease requires acting well before symptoms appear, focusing on early detection in primary care and better coordination between healthcare professionals.
