Cardiologist José Abellán warns of ultra-processed food risks
Cardiologist José Abellán has warned about the dangers of ultra-processed foods during an appearance on the podcast ‘The Wild Project’. He noted that these foods contribute significantly to global health issues, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
Abellán highlighted a growing global obesity crisis, noting that obesity cases have increased sevenfold over the last 40 years. This trend is driven by an imbalance between excessive, unhealthy calorie intake—specifically high in fats, sugars, and processed ingredients—and a decrease in physical activity. He suggested that many instances of cardiovascular disease and cancer can be linked to these dietary patterns, specifically mentioning that sugary drinks increase health risks.
